Position: Production Engineer 

Reports to: President / CEO 

Status: Full-time / exempt 

Location: Rancho Bernardo 

 

ABOUT MICROTEK: 

Microtek is a microelectronic manufacturing company, established in 2015. Microtek’s vision is to deliver novel life sciences services, devices, and therapeutics to provide equitable access and a meaningful connection to healthcare. We provide innovative product development by incorporating microelectronics manufacturing, engineering, bioscience, and pharmaceutical strategies.  We use state-of-the-art equipment and procedures to discover new chemical entities (NCEs) or new biological entities (NBEs) with therapeutic potential, for integration into our microelectronic technologies. 

 

WHO SHOULD APPLY: 

We are seeking a product engineer who will support production in the qualification and sustenance of products by performing activities for the development and maintenance of manufacturing methods and processes to ensure high productivity and quality. Our ideal candidate can think big- leading production in building new microelectronics products requiring many applications such as SMT, MIC, flip chip, mechanical assembly, or top-level assembly processes.  

 

This position is perfect for you if you enjoy creating something from the ground up and taking ownership of projects; you’re comfortable with ambiguity and love a challenge. You’re the type of person who can build a roadmap for innovative and highly promising strategies, laying out the when, where, and how.  
 
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Creates, reviews, and updates BOMs, assembly work instructions and specifications, process control plans, and routings 

  • Generates and reviews ECOs related to form, fit, function and assembly of the products. 

  • Conducts DFM study on new product 

  • Conducts DOE and FMEA to optimize manufacturing process 

  • Plans for and introduces process control procedures/systems, and analyzes statistical data to form basis for improvement action plans 

  • Conducts audits of production line to identify practices and tools non-conforming with process procedures and specifications, which will need correction 

  • Comes up with effective corrective actions to improve the yields 

  • Develops assembly procedures and work instruction as needed to enhance processes and improve productivity and quality 

  • Perform continuous process improvement by introducing new materials, processes, tools, and jigs / fixtures that will increase yield or reduce labor time 

  • Recommends procurement and use of tools and equipment necessary for building products 

  • Determines required labor time of manufactured products and regularly validates the standard 

  • Provide assembly quotations when required 

  • Provides training to other employees as needed 

  • Corresponds with the customer regarding technical issues and concerns related to the assembly processes of the products. Works with the customer representative/s during their visit 

  • Participates in weekly meetings, generates and submits weekly reports 

 

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPETENCIES: 

  • Applicant must have a BS degree in Applied Physics/Physics, Chemistry, or Engineering. 

  • Proficient and knowledgeable in microelectronics mfg processes (RF, RoHS, SMT, thin film hybrid microelectronics, micro soldering, etc) and standards (IPC610, MilStd883). 

  • Possesses good verbal and written communication skills. 

  • Familiar with manufacturing and cleanroom procedures. 

  • Comfortable around and able to program and operate mfg equipment quickly. 

  • Working knowledge of the following: 

  • ESD 

  • Product overview 

  • Equipment care and maintenance 

  • FMEA 

  • Resource planning 

 

PREFERRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES: 

  • Leadership and coordination skills 

  • Experience in semiconductor industry, electronics manufacturing, and cleanroom environments is preferred 

  • Flexible and organized. Able to plan and organize activities accordingly and handle various tasks simultaneously 

  • Decision making skills and ability to work independently in a start-up environment 

  • Due to small business environment, must be able to assume responsibilities beyond scope of job description 

  • Assume Management Representative role and responsibilities per ISO 13485 requirements

COMPENSATION: 

This is a full-time role with an annual salary based on level of experience and education. This position includes company standard benefits:
